Streaming Channel Guide
Crackle has always been about providing free TV, removing the financial barriers that prevent us from fostering a community centered on shared entertainment and experiences. Over a two-year period, the product design team transformed the outdated platform into a modern service that rivals paid alternatives in both form and function. My task was to design the "Live Free TV" experience, shaping how viewers engage with live, free content.

The Journey
-
Research Existing Products
The challenge was clear: how could Crackle make channel surfing on Free Live TV less frustrating? I began by studying competitors and identifying where they fell short. At the same time, I gathered user data to uncover pain points. The takeaway was simple—users wanted quicker access to content without losing the familiarity of a traditional guide.
-
Quick Sketches
With these insights, I quickly sketched ideas to explore different approaches. Some reimagined the guide, while others layered new features onto familiar patterns. One concept stood out: a two-tiered system combining a full guide with a quick-look option inside the player.
-
Wireframes and User Flow
From sketches, I built a modified user flow and wireframes to test structure and flow across devices. These mapped sections, modules, and interactions to show how the guide could work in practice. The goal wasn’t looks but proving the experience could reduce frustration.
-
Design Iterations
Finally, I transformed wireframes into a polished, intuitive interface. Each iteration refined hierarchy, visuals, and interactions, making the guide smoother and more engaging. Prototypes and A/B tests helped validate solutions, resulting in a design that felt both familiar and premium.
